Welcome! Here, we honor and value the wisdom of Indigenous peoples and elders, preserving traditions and ceremonies that empower our communities. By connecting to our roots, we elevate our consciousness and strengthen our shared identity. We believe that healing the land and our planet is interconnected with the consciousness of people. Join us in bridging ancestral knowledge and Indigenous led climate justice solutions for the planet. Together, we can create a sustainable future rooted in respect and understanding for Mother Earth.

OUR MISSION

Our specific purpose is to provide empowerment and consciousness expansion to the community through the re-connection of our roots, ancestral medicine, ceremony, art, and healing. Getting To The Root Inc. is a non-profit corporation organized and operated exclusively for charitable purposes, specifically to provide a safe and sacred space for all people to pray to Great Spirit/Creator in ceremony and in community. We also work to preserve ancestral ways by supporting Indigenous communities.

Who We Are

Lizette Azucena Ohxochitl

Founder and Lead at Getting To The Root, she is devoted to creating sacred spaces for prayer, healing, and community empowerment—spaces that honor the ancestral wisdom carried through her lineage from Jalisco, Mexico, and the broader cultural memory of Anahuak, the land of the original peoples of this continent.

Rooted in the spiritual traditions of Toltekayotl and Wixárika cosmology, Lizette walks in reverence with the living teachings of the Earth and the ceremonial ways of her elders and ancestors. She is a Danzante Solar from Teotihuacan, a Sacred Pipe carrier, and a guardiana of the Temazcalli.

For more than eight years, Lizette has been initiated and has been walking alongside Marakate and Wixárika families, as a devoted pilgrim to Wirikuta. Through this sacred path, she continues to deepen her commitment to remembering, protecting, and sharing the medicine of ancestral ways—always guided by prayer, humility, and gratitude.
